My name is Steven Reagan. I’m based in Jackson, California, in Amador County, which is where the name comes from.
I’ve been a photographer for twenty years, shooting digital: DSLR for most of it, mirrorless more recently. Over that time I’ve developed a working understanding of how cameras and lenses perform: what separates good glass from great glass, and why the gear you shoot with matters.
That background is what I bring to every camera and lens that comes through here. When I test a shutter or inspect a lens element, I’m doing it the same way I’d evaluate gear I was putting on my own camera.
I also have a background in electronics repair. For you, that means light seals are replaced when they need it, faults are diagnosed rather than guessed at, and shutters and mechanisms are cleaned where needed.
I started Amador Camera Co. because something is missing in this market. Locally, there’s nowhere to go: no shop to walk into, no counter to look across, no one who knows the inventory by name. Online, it’s the opposite problem: scale without a face. The big platforms are warehouses. You’re a transaction.
That’s not what this is. You’re buying from a person who looked at that specific camera, tested it, photographed it, and decided it was worth selling. If you have a question about a piece of gear, ask. I’ll give you a straight answer.
Amador Camera Co. is online-only for now, and focused on doing that well. Every transaction gets the same attention it would if you were standing across the counter.
